Spondeo Preschool is a collaboration of all factors that create the best environment for children to learn and to excel.  These factors include, but are not limited to, the Montessori teaching method and highly educated Early Childhood Specialists.  Together, they create the foundation for an exceptionally successful preschool.
The building, a tactfully planned, progressive structure, will project the high quality that lies within its walls.
The students, parents, teachers and community will want to become increasingly involved due to the precocious nature of this early childhood education center.

 

Philosophy
Spondeo Preschool’s teaching roots are found in the Montessori Method.  Although the method is very complex and detailed, the following information gives a general overview. 
The Montessori Method has, for a century, proved to be an outstanding early childhood educational technique.  This method respects each child’s unique position on their own developmental timeline.  This timeline includes their social, emotional and academic development.
Socialization and emotional development are obtained through practice and participation through out the preschool day.  Emphasis on independence and accomplishment helps the child formulate an intrinsically motivated self-concept.  This positive self-concept gives the child the confidence to help other students.  Soon, the child beams with personal satisfaction, a sense of belonging and knows that they are a positive contributor to the class.
Peer interactions are carefully monitored by teachers.  Individual instruction is given on the correct polite social response for situations.  Conflict resolution is accomplished by utilizing positive discipline techniques. Teachers provide a wrap around conflict resolution where both parties:

  - state the issue
- give or inquire an appropriate solution
-agree on a positive solution


the teacher then oversees implementation of the joint solution.  Initially, this conflict sequence takes time and supervision, but through practice, children soon have the tools and confidence to respectfully find conflict solutions.
A child’s academic development occurs in sequence and concretely (objects that are 3 dimensional, that can be touched and manipulated create the best and lasting educational impacts).  As the child’s brain develops, further abstract representation can be introduced (symbols, i.e. a, b, c and 1, 2, 3).  Dr. Montessori proved this time and time again, allowing each of her students to continue to grow, learn and excel intrinsically—the way children are “hard wired”.  When a child is given the opportunity to be guided in a prepared Montessori environment the child learns at the optimal level.  The celebrated products of the Montessori Method are: joy, enthusiasm and the untiring passion to continue to learn.
Our goal, as teachers, is to model, provide and create the best forum for children to learn and to excel.  Through the correct use and practice of the Montessori Method, Spondeo Preschool stands proud.  Our students will reap the great benefits of becoming life long learners. They will positively contribute their gifts and talents to better our community and their world.
It is within such victory, that “Liberi Spondeo” will be fulfilled for it is the “Children’s Promise” for a better future.

 

Objectives

 

The apex objectives of Spondeo Preschool are:
-a positive self-concept
-an intrinsic motivation to learn, to discover and to apply
knowledge
-to apply skills towards the student’s positive contribution to
society

The acquisition of these apex objectives rely on:
--the stable, prepared, and developmentally appropriate
environment at Spondeo Preschool

Within this Spondeo Preschool environment, the following building block
objectives will be:
-learning to respect oneself, others and the environment
-cultivate friendships and harmonious respectful interactions
-work on positive solutions to disagreements
-develop a sense of “order”
-increase concentration
-increase coordination, fine motor and gross motor
-discover and achieve independence and the responsibility that
accompanies that freedom
-begin the concrete absorption of the abstract nature of language
and mathematics
-acquire the abstract nature of language through nomenclature
and reading
-obtain the abstract nature of mathematics through the symbolic
representations of concrete mathematical materials
-discover and appreciate other cultures and their traditions
-explore social sciences and natural sciences
-participate in musical education
-journey through and participate in art history education



All of these objectives will be met through the teacher’s diligence in the prepared environment.  The fruits of the teacher’s labor will be the student’s intrinsic love of learning.  The students will thrive due to the FUN, ENJOYABLE and DEVLOPMENTALLY APPROPRIATE classroom activities and overall prepared environment.  All of these building objectives play a part in obtaining the apex objectives—a self-confident, intrinsically motivated life long learner who will share their gifts and talents to positively contribute to the community and the world.
